Dash for Diabetes
The Fight against Type 2 Diabetes in Fiji…
Every year the Petero Civoniceva Foundation in association with Asco Motors hosts our Dash for Diabetes 5km and family fun morning in Suva. The event is organised to raise awareness of Diabetes within Fiji, to help those already dealing with Diabetes and to also take a pro-active step towards combatting the issue through encouraging physical activity and healthier diets.
The morning is fun filled with sports clinics, entertainment and a Zumba warm up. The participants then set out on their 5km dash along the sea wall and return back to Buckhurst Park where they are greeted with prizes, entertainment, free fruit, water, goodie bags and in 2017 were fortunate to have the Fiji Bati team make an appearance to greet the participants.
Year 1: November 14th 2015 attracted 270 participants and raised. We were fortunate to have Mr Jone Usamate the Minister of. The event raised $973 for Diabetes Fiji enabling the Foundation to purchase 3100 insulin needles.
Year 2: November 26th November attracted 251 participants raising $1007 for Diabetes Fiji.
Year 3: Saturday 14th October 2017. The event attracted 556 participants and raised $1264.80. The Guest of Honour was Dr Eric Rafai from the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Bati Rugby League Team.
The 2018 Dash will be held on Saturday at Buckhurst Park in Suva, so bring along your family and friends and walk or run the 5km route.
