A message from Petero

Petero Civoniceva is one of the most highly regarded men in sport – winning competitions with Brisbane Broncos in 1998, 2000 and 2006. The most capped forward for Australia, Petero has played 45 games and has an extraordinary 30 appearances for Queensland in State of Origin to his credit. The 2013 Rugby League World Cup was Petero’s swansong and fittingly he captained his country-of-birth, Fiji to the semi-finals at Wembley stadium.

“I have been blessed with amazing experiences and opportunities throughout my sporting career. It is this connection to sport that has provided me with many valuable and important lessons in my life. Self belief, honesty, integrity, determination and leadership to name a few. It is these qualities that have helped me throughout my life both on and off the sporting field. It is our aim through the Foundation’s work, to provide Fiji’s students the opportunity to develop and experience these qualities via sport and education inspiring students to have a positive impact on Fijian society”.

  • "The highlight of my trip was when we went to a Fijian school. It was pretty special to see how much it meant to the kids that we were there. It was a really good experience for all our boys and we all really enjoyed it."

Tom Dearden PBC Student/ Brisbane Broncos Player
  • “The experience was great. When we initially planned to do something for the boys, a camp or a trip somewhere, we were thinking about ourselves and our team. This actually got us out thinking of others and that was the best part. I could see that this tour had a bigger picture to it. It was about developing the code and the boys giving something back, it was about them getting out of their comfort zone. It was really good to see the boys not just showing gratitude but opening up and realising it’s not just about us”.

Neil Mackay Head of Sport at Palm Beach Currimbin School, Austraila
  • “The highlight of the tour was definitely hanging out with the West Fiji Dolphins boys, at training and on game day. Especially after game day when they sung to us it was something pretty special that I will remember for the rest of my life”.

    Jed Edwards PBC Student Australia
  • “The students have learnt a lot from warming up to cool downs and the sports activities that have been played by the students for the past five weeks. For a school with less sports time having you for a longer period of time will be a bonus in the near future.”

    Sefanaia Rauci IGM Primary School
  • “It has helped me as a teacher to develop new strategies for teaching physical education so that the children will enjoy the lesson.”

Mrs Sla Rauluni Vatuwaqa Primary School
  • “The programme is really beneficial. It teaches the children the foundations of physical activity like sportsmanship, teamwork, healthy lifestyle and determination. I really thank the Petero Civoniceva Foundation for choosing our school and hope in future there would be more programmes organised in our school. Thank you very much!”

Umesh Chand Holy Trinity Primary School
  • “This programme is useful and one that ensures students get out of the classroom and into a more lively and physical setting. It is one that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle for our battle against NCD’s in Fiji.”

Varanisese Korovakaturaga Suva Methodist Primary School
  • “The project has helped the children with their psychomotor/co- ordination and has given them more confidence in themselves.”

Sr. Pushpa Arjun Stella Maris Primary School
  • “The students found this programme very exciting and interesting. We will look forward to more programmes like this in the future.”

    Nadi Airport School
  • “This programme enabled students to discover their own physical movement potential as well as an increased awareness of the significance of movements. Also this programme provided suitable medium for the application of theirs and concepts learned in the classroom.”
